Flea’s & Tapeworm – Why buy our worm test kit?
Did you know adult Fleas can lay as many as 50 eggs per day and around half of these eggs will be female. When adult she then mates and the cycle starts again all within a number of days,…. this could be in your home!
The flea egg incubation can take between 1 and 10 days then 5 to 10 days later the eggs hatch into Larvae, then after spinning a protective cocoon for the pupa the adult flea appears between a few days or several months depending on the temperature.
How does the flea find your pets?
Adult fleas find places to hide in your home such as carpets, rugs, bedding, furniture and under the edge of your skirting boards. Outside they hide in grass, shrubs, decking, porches and sheds. Studies suggest they sense body heat, movement and breathing of your pets. Now thats a smart flea! And being able to jump 8 inches if they cannot get to your pet they will bite you, so always check your skin.
Check your pet regularly!
- Is your pet scratching?
- Does your pet have hair loss?
- Have you been bitten?
- Does your pet have sore patches?
- Can you see tiny dark insects running through your pet’s hair?
What can you do?
Combe your pet using a fine-toothed combe and tap it onto some kitchen cloth or white toilet paper to see flea droppings, then add a small drop of water, if it turns a red/brown colour it is likely your pet has fleas.
You will need to use products on your home to clear an infestation and wash pet bedding. Please keep in mind it may take more than one treatment due to the reproduction lifecycle.
Flea bites on your pet!
They will itch and be uncomfortable, and if your pet is hypersensitive, they may have a reaction to flea saliva. Fleas feed on blood and young or older pets can become week.
